What is Clear the Air?
Clear the Air (CTA) focuses on creating community equity by providing access to cleaner air and community education. Our volunteer-run, disability-led operation works to make spaces safer by reducing viral transmission through lending HEPA air purifiers and far-UVC devices, as well as distributing tests and KN95 masks, all free of charge.
How did CTA start?
Clear the Air (CTA) was launched on December 15th, 2023 in Austin, Texas by KD, CTA’s founder, along with fellow local organizers. Clear the Air’s launch date was intentional, as it is one day after KD’s COVID infection anniversary – that led to them developing Long COVID in 2021. KD noticed a severe lack of public health resources for cleaner indoor air, which is critical to slow the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as many other viruses that circulate within our communities.
We started out of necessity and desire to keep our fellow performers, artists, musicians, and organizers safe – and to work toward making more inclusive community gathering spaces where disabled community members are not abandoned, where people living with Long COVID’s experiences are validated, and where we can dream up a better world together. “Clear the Air” is a reclamation of sorts, the name itself is pointed towards addressing the viral elephant in the room. It is the refusal to be complacent during a time of great community need. We want to see our community sustain accessible practices, prevent reinfections, and to keep ourselves and our loved ones safer.
Nearly two years into this and hundreds of safer events later, we are excited to say the library has been received better than we could have even imagined, and we are continuing to expand the work we do and services we provide, so stay tuned!
Who's this cute lil cloud?
This is our cutie cloud mascot, Neil!
If you see Neil on event promo, it means that purifiers from the Clear The Air library are present!

Having an event?
Clean air is a human right,
just like clean water, access to food, and medical care. However, exposure to a multi-organ damaging virus has become normalized. It doesn’t have to be this way, and we’re inviting you to join us in utilizing purifiers, far UVC, and/or masks at your events. We all deserve clean air, everywhere!
